Torrance, California – We Are G.A.M.E. (Getting Athletes Mentoring and Education), a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering students and athletes with the tools and skills they need to succeed in sports, academics, and life, is thrilled to report on its partnership with Code the Change (CTC) during the 2023 academic school year.
CTC, a student organization at the University of Southern California, brings together developers and designers to use their skills for social good. They partner with three nonprofits each year to help them overcome technology-related challenges and achieve their missions.
Through this partnership, CTC has developed cutting-edge software for We Are G.A.M.E., enabling the organization to provide its mentees with a personalized college search experience. The software allows students to filter through a list of schools based on up to 20 fields, including graduation rates, acceptance rates, and ethnic makeups, ensuring they find the perfect fit for their academic and athletic goals.
Before this collaboration, this process was painstaking, requiring mentees to sift through vast amounts of information about colleges. This innovation will improve We Are G.A.M.E.’s efficiency and make the process seamless for the mentees, providing them with a tailored approach to finding the best academic route for their future.
“This software has completely transformed how we guide our student-athletes. Instead of spending hours sorting through college data, they now get a personalized list based on exactly what matters — graduation rates, athletic programs, and even diversity. It’s a huge leap forward in helping them make the best decision for their future,” said Allen Thigpen, Founder.
By leveraging Code the Change’s technical expertise, We Are G.A.M.E. can focus on its core mission of empowering student-athletes to reach their full potential. The organization’s mentors work closely with students and their parents to create a comprehensive game plan that balances athletic success with academic excellence.
We Are G.A.M.E. has a proven track record of success, with remarkable outcomes for its mentees. The organization has placed student-athletes in over 35 colleges nationwide, working with over 400 students across 12 states. Most notably, 98% of their student-athletes attend college and 88% have graduated, with over 20 receiving athletic scholarships. Four have even gone on to play professionally, most notably Jacen Roberson, who was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks, and DJ Reed, current starting cornerback for the NY Jets.
This partnership with Code the Change is expected to amplify further We Are G.A.M.E.’s impact, opening up new opportunities for student-athletes to succeed
