Justin Sigadel’s pirate novel Cannons And Colours revisits the 1720s as 2026 marks 300 years since the Golden Age of Piracy ended.

Boston, Massachusetts – October 21, 2026 – Justin Sigadel, the New England author behind the five-star pirate novel Cannons And Colours, is inviting readers back to the 1720s as 2026 marks three hundred years since the Golden Age of Piracy came to a close. On July 12, 1726, the pirate William Fly was hanged at Boston Harbor, an event many historians point to as the end of the era. Justin Sigadel’s novel, illustrated by Emili Wallace and Mike Waggoner, is set in that very decade and holds a perfect 5-out-of-5-star rating from readers on Amazon.

Justin Sigadel’s story opens in 1720s Doncaster, England. Eli Donaldson and Thomas Herrick are two average young men until an evening of drinking ends with both of them kidnapped and pressed into service with the British navy. Through a series of action-packed events, the pair eventually become full-fledged pirates. But as the trials of a pirate’s life begin to take their toll, Eli and Thomas face two questions: will their friendship survive, and will they make it home alive?

The anniversary carries a local connection, too. Fly’s execution took place in Boston, and Justin Sigadel grew up in New England. “Growing up here was great,” said Justin Sigadel. “Being immersed in the history and the culture of the Boston area, as well as being located by the sea, was perfect to spark the imagination to create a pirate story.”

Justin Sigadel wrote Cannons And Colours as a passion project after graduating from university, drawing on a life-long obsession with pirates and pirate lore. Readers may not have seen the last of Eli and Thomas: according to the author, Cannons And Colours 2 may already be in the works.
